Can we buy live lambs from the farm?

We do not sell lambs live from our farm – they must be processed with the inspector present through Metchosin Meats.

Question 2

Can the lambs be slaughtered Halal?

Accepted Answer

They can be slaughtered Halal, but we stun them first with a Halal approved stunner.  They are not dead when they are cut but are unconscious.  The heart is still beating, and they will bleed out fully.

Question 3

Can we buy the lamb by a fixed price?

The lambs are sold by the pound carcass weight, not a fixed price.

Question 4

Can I choose my lamb?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We will take around 20 to the slaughterhouse and you can pick the one you prefer from the group.  This generally takes place Wednesday mornings at 8:00 and must be arranged ahead of time, by Friday of the previous week.

Question 5

Can I take my lamb home right away?

Accepted Answer

No.  The lambs need to chill before they can be released from the abattoir.  They must be picked up Thursday morning at 8:30, when we unload the cooler and load for our deliveries to town.

Question 6

Can you get them cut up?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this can be arranged through one of the butchers we deal with, and must be organized ahead of time, as the butchers are often booked up.
